Karen Alameddine, former controller of  Hereditary Disease Foundation, a New York-based nonprofit group that supports research into genetic illness, was sentenced today to 48 months imprisonment. She has been jailed since November 2014. The US Attorney says that she embezzled over 2 million dollars and evaded taxes. Since she is in detention past 14 months, she will have to sit an additional 22 months, provided she gets 6 months of halfway house/home confinement because in the federal prison system, you must do 87.5 percent of the sentence.

MDC is a horrible place to be.Why? Because you are locked in a big room 24/7 and with the A/C always on, you must wear a sweater. In this place, you never feel the sun. Depending on where you are, you may see it only through a thin glass plane. It is like an ex garage,ex storage place near the water in a semi seedy part of Brooklyn known as Sunset Park. At least now that she is sentenced she will be most likely transferred to another facility where she can touch the ground.

MDC was the detention center where a female guard was charged with having sex with inmates. When I was there back in August 2014, I saw 1 male and 1 female FBI agent in the intake room. I was told later on that they were there to arrest a Corrections Officer for smuggling into the place contraband.

I assume she stole the money to live a life style she could not otherwise afford. Now that she has been jailed for a while, I am sure she regrets her crime. You don't play with the feds.

I went through the same horrible conditions, you can read my story over here....
