Send home old man Nat Schlesinger, Satmar chasid, from Prison

Send home Nathan "Nat" Schlesinger

In Otisville Camp, I sat with Nat Schlesinger,a 78 year old satmar chasid who was convicted of arson back in 2006 for burning down his factory for insurance proceeds.  Judge Spatt gave him a fifteen year sentence.
The bottom line is that he is a frail 79 year old man, who lost all his teeth, has numerous health issues, and has spent already 10 years in jail. His wife has alzheimers and one of his sons is mentally retarded.  Not one person died in any of the fires he allegedly set. The man should go home to his wife and family on compassionate medical grounds and he can easily be monitored in his home.
According to BOP records, he will be released in two years and for a man in such a condition, it could be a death sentence. In Italy, any white collar felon over 70 is on house arrest. Why is America so brutal to it's elderly citizens?
