Four Latinos Charged in 7 million dollar Car loan scheme

Christopher Campos, Attorney, one of the defendants

A story just came out of the US Attorney's office where four people allegedly scammed banks that dealt with car loans. What was their alleged crime? They made believe the cars were being purchased by private individuals but in reality, the cars were being purchased by livery cab drivers. What's the difference? The livery cab drivers would be paying a higher interest rate. By making believe it was for personal use, the livery cab drivers would be saving money on the loan payback. When the article said an attorney was involved, I googled the name, Christopher Campos, and a very nice website came up with the same name. I was not sure it was the same person until I read the complaint where it described Mr. Campos using the same language as his website, as an "international business attorney and advisor with a diverse educational and transactional background". His website says he was also a former city councilman serving Hoboken, NJ.

These guys thought it was a great idea to make money through livery cabs but at the end of the day, it has to come to haunt them and they will have regret, if they are guilty and do take a plea. It is like they built a big sand castle on the sea shore and the wave, which is the feds, took it down in a heartbeat.

Because you have a license, the feds hammer you harder. So it was with me, because I had a law license, I was hammered the hardest with a five year sentence. Then they come up with all kind of stories to raise the prison time, they have something called sophisticated means, etc. Before you realize what happened, you are slammed with more years you can handle.

If these guys take it to trial and win, they walk away free men. If they lose, they will get hammered.

In jail, there are no suits, no fancy watches, no ties or boat trips. The only thing you are wearing is a khaki or green uniform. And, you only make 10 cents an hour if you are lucky enough to get a "job". All the millions made in scams may come to haunt them.
