He is trying to save his name. To tell you the truth , 99.9 percent of the world does not care nor even know this person. However, if it makes him feel better and that is what life is all about, that is fine with me. I am just happy he is home. He says that jail was the most humbling experience. I have the same thoughts as him.
Here are the most salient points of the compassionate release program...
"Age 65 and older. ■ Suffer from chronic or serious medical conditions related to the aging process. ■ Experiencing deteriorating mental or physical health that substantially diminishes their ability to function in a correctional facility. ■ Conventional treatment promises no substantial improvement to their mental or physical condition. ■ Have served at least 50% of their sentence." The full guideline/rule is here..https://www.bop.gov/policy/progstat/5050_049_CN-1.pdf
I heard that 99 percent who apply for this "compassionate release program" get rejected. To put it mildly, if this is compassion, then I don't know what non compassion means to them.
If I were in charge, I would say that anyone over 60 does his prison time on home confinement and then it is only for maximum 6 months. I was on home confinement also for 6 months at the end of my 5 year sentence and it puts a drain on the family too so why should they suffer because of you. I believe that most people who have got caught in the act of the crime are remorseful and that is enough punishment. We are only human. We all need second chances and we all need help. There is no work network out of prison. There should be something like that set up. Prison is pure punishment. All of their ACE classes are worthless.
Schlesinger has two years to go |
I hope this story gets out to Nat Schlesinger who has applied for compassionate release in FCI Otisville. He is 79 years old and scheduled to come out in two years when he is 81 years old.
He is in jail already over 10 years for insurance fraud, for allegedly burning down his place of business for insurance proceeds. He got a 15 year sentence. I read his paperwork. In my opinion, the government played hardball and dirty with him . His wife has alzheimers and one of his son's is mentally retarded. He was home on a furlough for last Passover and nothing happened. There were no incidents. So why cannot this 79 frail old man, missing all of his teeth, with a heart condition just go home. Some of these stories behoove the brain to act. There are a lot of horror stories that the world does not know of but exist in the world of the Bureau of Prison. My mission is to enlighten the world.
