48 Year Fugitive

Bob Stackowitz aka Bob Gordon facing Georgia justice, courtesy NY Times

An elderly man was caught as  a fugitive for a crime he committed almost 50 years ago.
Based on the NY Times story...he lived an exemplary life, working as a boat mechanic. See story here...http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/04/nyregion/a-small-town-residents-secret-for-48-years-he-was-a-fugitive.html

In my opinion , putting a man with medical conditions including bladder cancer, heart disease and diabetes in jail is a death sentence. Remember, he already did 2 years over a 9 dollar crime. The charges say violent but we don't know what really happened and we don't know if he was the main culprit. Besides, it could not have been too bad as the victim is still alive and in his nineties.

If the purpose of jail is rehabilitation, then jail is unnecessary for this person as noted above.
I was also picked up by the marshals when I was extradited from Canada and I also sat in local (horrible jails) awaiting extradition. Is this person a threat to society? This is the phrase they use to deny you bail and or the excuse to keep you locked up behind bars like a wild animal. I would say definitely not.

I hope the justice system pardons or commutes Mr.Stackowitz's jail term. This story is revolting. Leave this man alone.
