former prison guard charged with accepting bribes

According to KMBC, "KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A former prison guard was indicted Wednesday on charges alleging he received more than $200,000 in bribes for smuggling tobacco to prisoners in Leavenworth Penitentiary." See attached article...http://www.kmbc.com/news/former-prison-guard-charged-with-accepting-bribes/39975990

"Marc Buckner, 46, of Kansas City, Kansas, is charged with one count of accepting bribes.
According to court documents, Buckner is alleged to have taken more than $200,000 in bribes from 2005 to 2014 while he worked at the prison. Investigators said Buckner received $750 from inmates each time he smuggled tobacco into the prison, acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said in a news release.
If convicted, Buckner faces up to 15 years in federal prison and a fine of up to three times the value of the contraband."
How is this possible? In a federal prison, the guards are breaking the law? Yes, this is possible and I witnessed contraband myself in MCC, MDC, and Fort Dix. I saw people with tobacco and cell phones at Fort Dix. In my opinion, the lie was that it came over the fence. Truth says otherwise. There is a very thin line between a guard and a prisoner and many succumb to bribes that blinds them.
