What is the real meaning of the Shofar?

Reading about the shofar and then listening to the sounds of the shofar with it's groaning sounds on Rosh Hashana made me think about it's significance.

As for one who studies Gematria to get a better understanding about life, I turned to the numbers to find a clue.

There are three kinds of shofar blasts, the tekiah, shevarim and teruah. I added up all three and they came to 1818.

Another phrase with same number cna be found at Psalms 100:3   , where it says G-d made us and we are his flock. This teaches us the love of G-d with mankind.
