My thoughts on Merrick Garland nominated to Supreme Court

I am happy to hear that President Obama nominated a Jewish individual to the highest Court of the land.

I was wondering how he took the name Merrick Garland. The name is far from Jewish. I guess he did it or his parents did to hide their being Jewish. At least he mentioned his background how his grandparents or parents left Ukraine or Russia to escape anti semitism.
