A local Clark County,Nevada woman was petrified when she received a call from the Sheriffs office that since she failed to appear for jury, she would have to pay $2500 or face jail time. The lady said the voice was very strong and official sounding. A local news reporter, Fatima Rahmatullah , said it was a fraud and even interviewed Judge David Barker, who called it a scam. The thief was not such a bright criminal since he left his phone number, that is like leaving his fingerprints. So maybe we are not hearing the entire story.
I have come across telemarketing scammers in jail. The best advice is to hang up. If they leave a message, don't call back. The person who scared the lady may eventually end up in jail since what he is doing is a crime. If he does over different states, then it becomes a federal crime.
