According to US Attorney's office in New York , Vimpelcom Ltd, headquartered in Amsterdam and incorporated in Bermuda, will pay the US government a whopping 795 million dollars for violating the foreign corrupt practices act for bribing an Uzbek Official . Vimpelcom is the 6th largest telecommunications company in the world. This story teaches us that America does not have to go to war to get the spoils of war. They have the US Attorney's office for that purpose to collect money from the whole world. Based on these news stories like this one and Julius Baer bank, the US Government will never run out of money.
For us little guys, if we get caught bribing an official, rest assured we would sit in jail for a few years. However, when a big company does that, the US Government simply extracts money from the corporate behemoth and they let the bad actors off the hook.
With all of this money being collected, I hope they give a break to the little guys and give back some of the money to the poor and needy and build a little less marble palaces.
So now we see what the best business in the world is, and that is an arm of the US government, the US Attorneys Office, SDNY, as where else can you collect almost a billion dollars in one swoop?
No wonder America is the world power.
As for me, stupid me, I was an immigration lawyer who broke the law and got a 60 months jail sentence.
