| Anita Barney, lost her fortune and then became a co-conspirator |
I came across the story of Anita Barney, who lost her fortune to an ex quarterback, Art Schlichter.

Mrs. Barney gave her money to Mr Schlichter to help him with his gambling addiction but when she ran out of money, she got others involved to help Mr. Schlichter's swindle and in turn, try to get her money back. At the end of the day, she is convicted with him but is spared jail time. As a 72 year old woman who survived breast cancer, she would have it very difficult in prison. Thank G-d she was spared that ordeal. We must show compassion on the elderly, even if they are somewhat crooked.

I came across similar stories where a former lawyer, Frederick Todd, once worth 10 million dollars, gets involved with a swindler named Weinstein, loses his fortune and ends up with a 46 month prison sentence. Todd is doing time in Miami. He wanted to go to Otisville but one of his co defendants blocked him. Weinstein is doing over 20 years.
